Congratulations to the 2007-2008 Scholarship Winner! Katie Hammond The Mu Beta Psi Honorary Musical Scholarship was established in May of 1998 to honor an outstanding musician entering North Carolina State University as an incoming freshman, and now the award is given to a rising sophomore. Each year, Alpha Chapter awards $500 to one outstanding musician. In the past, in addition to completing an application and including a high school transcript, applicants had to provide three references, a videotape of a solo performance, and an essay describing the role of music in their lives. The role of the Brothers includes judging, awarding and announcing the winner, distributing the funds, and publicizing for future competitions. As well, the Brothers work hard every year to raise the funds for the ultimate goal of getting the scholarship endowed. The Mu Beta Psi Honorary Musical Scholarship promotes all four of our purposes: it honors the winner, stimulates interest in our musical ensembles, advances music as an educational subject (several winners have been music minors), and promotes fellowship by establishing bonds between musicians and the Brothers of Mu Beta Psi.
